Emergency Closure

Emergency School Closure and Severe Weather Arrangements

At Benhall St. Mary’s, we are committed to keeping our school open and running wherever possible. However, in the event of severe weather or an emergency situation, there may be occasions when we need to close for the safety of pupils, staff, and families.

How You’ll Be Notified:

  • Email Notification: You will receive a direct email from the school if we need to close.

  • Text Message via Arbor: We will also send a message via Arbor, where possible.

  • Suffolk County Council Website: The local authority will be informed, and the closure will be listed on the Suffolk County Council’s school closure page:  https://schoolclosures.suffolk.gov.uk

  • Local Radio: BBC Radio Suffolk and HEART FM regularly announce school closures and use the same council website as their source.

Remote Learning During Closure

If the school is closed:

  • Teachers will move to remote learning.

  • You will be contacted with clear instructions about the work your child is expected to complete during the closure period.

Snow Days – When the School Remains Open

If we are open during snowy weather, we love to let the children enjoy it safely!
Please ensure your child has the following in school:

  • Wellington boots

  • Warm coat

  • Gloves

  • Indoor footwear to change into after playing outside
