British Values

British Values at Benhall St Mary's C of E Primary School

At Benhall St Mary's, we aim to support children in becoming thoughtful, kind and resilient members of society. Our Christian ethos and core school values—Kindness, Respect, Friendship, Resilience, and Forgiveness—guide how we introduce and reflect British values across school life.

Democracy

We encourage pupils to share their views and take part in decisions that affect school life. Opportunities such as the whole school moot help children learn how group decision-making works and how everyone has a role to play in shaping their community.

The Rule of Law

Understanding the purpose of rules helps create a calm and respectful environment. Through our school rules and class discussions, pupils explore why laws exist, how they keep people safe, and what responsibilities come with them. Whenever appropriate, pupils are taught the value and reasons behind these expectations. Visitors like local police officers help bring these ideas to life.

Individual Liberty

Children are given space to make choices and express themselves within a safe and respectful setting. Through PSHE, e-safety and other curriculum areas, we help pupils understand their rights and responsibilities, and how to act thoughtfully and safely.

Mutual Respect

Respect is one of our key school values and is built into everyday life at school. We encourage pupils to listen to and learn from one another, even when they don’t agree. Group work, assemblies and shared activities help children practise cooperation and empathy.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

Pupils are introduced to a range of cultures, beliefs and worldviews through our RE curriculum, themed events and visiting speakers. These experiences help children understand differences and develop curiosity and respect for others.

By weaving these values into school life, Benhall St Mary's C of E Primary School helps children grow into responsible and considerate individuals. Our approach reflects our wider mission to help each child "Be the best they can be" and to "let their light shine before others."
