Comenius Project

Benhall St Marys Primary School has just joined an exciting two year project, along with 6 other European schools. The Comenius project, which is funded by the British Council, has been developed in conjunction with 6 schools from Turkey, Lithuania, Italy, Spain, Norway and Romania.
In our ever changing world, technology means that our children need different skills and abilities and as they grow and look towards adulthood and employment, the ability to work within the global community and market place will become of even greater importance. At Benhall School we hope to equip our children as global citizens, something even more important for children from small rural communities. During the course of this project we hope to expose our children to cultures and countries other than their own, and to promote respect, understanding and tolerance of other peoples.
Over the coming two years the children will communicate in cyber space and focus on a different aspect of life in each country each month. The children will be swapping photos with their new friends, learning how children live in each country and creating virtual displays of their own lives which will be shared with the other children throughout the project.
The children will be using video diaries to record aspects of their daily lives and at the end of the project these will be combined with the video diaries from all the other children and made into a film.
With the help of technology children from Benhall School will be crossing borders, making new friends and joining with other children from many parts of Europe. This is a fantastic opportunity for our children to foster new friendships outside the confines of their town or village and to gain valuable knowledge of other countries, cultures and communities.
